BUILDING GREEN

Green building use to be thought of as a way to “get off the grid” or some alternative life style movement. However, green building is about economics and responsibility. Innovations in building products have played a big part in our current building practices that meet both the economic requirements our Homeowners and their desire to be environmentally responsible.

The new home we will build with you addresses both your home’s energy footprint and its impact on the environment.  As builders, we are very cognizant of the need to build a greener home without taking all the green out of your wallet.  By partnering with reputable companies to insure best prices and by lowering our profit margin to accommodate some of the additional cost, we have developed a building model that is very “wallet friendly”.  Once your home is built to our model’s standards, the home’s energy consumption is substantially lowered and therefore has a much smaller energy footprint than your neighbors.

As a company we approach environmental responsibility not only during the building of your home, but long after you have moved into your home.  First, when possible we choose products that either have a lower manufacturing or application impact on the environment.  Often these types of products have a “green” label on them, but more importantly we have verified with the manufacture that the claims of the products we use are valid.  In addition and when possible, the disposal of waste from the construction of your new home is done with an emphasis on recycling and proper disposal methods.

Once your home is built we will donate funds to plant 1000 new trees (in your name!) in the United States, and when available directly in Texas.  It is fairly well known that it takes between 6 and 30+ trees to build a 2000 square foot home.  This number varies because it is based on the height and width of the trees forested for the lumber used in the construction of your home; but the formula to arrive at this number is fairly universal.  Since a majority of the homes we have built are 4000+ square feet, with some certainty, we believe it takes about 60 trees to build a typical home by Black And White Construction.  In addition to replacing the trees used to build your home, these new trees are also offsetting the carbon footprint of the energy used by your home annually!   And since you are planting more trees than you are using, you are offsetting the construction and energy impact of an additional 17 homes!!!  Now that feels green.
